Submission Agreement and Guidelines

By submitting any and all material to Bright Light Multimedia and The Bright Light Café, you are consenting and agreeing to the terms, conditions and guidelines outlined in the following document.

All submissions must be entertaining and uplifting. This does not mean sugar-coated and unrealistic.  It does mean putting a positive and empowering perspective within your creation.

All submissions must be free from hate, racism, sexism, violence, pornography, crudity, pessimism, cynicism, religion and politics.

A submission form must accompany all submissions.

All submissions must be in the English language, with checks for spelling and grammatical errors already completed.  However, if an item is selected for publication, Bright Light Multimedia and The Bright Light Café reserve the right to correct spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, adjust layout and generally edit where necessary to adhere to Bright Light Multimedia and Bright Light Café criteria and standards.

We are seeking submissions for possible showcasing at The Bright Light Café in these areas:

  • Short Stories

    • Each short story must be between 100 and 3,000 words.

    • It may be a true or fictional story.

  • Poetry

    • Each poem must be 50 lines or under.

    • Poems must be entertaining and easy to voice.

  • Articles

    • Each article must be between 200 and 4,000 words. 

  • Audio Scripts

    • Each audio play must be between 1 minute and 3 minutes in length.

    • It can contain up to 6 speaking parts.

    • A short description of the characters and a three-line synopsis of the play is an advantage.

    • Clean humour is an advantage.

    • Swearing is a disadvantage.

  • Art, Photos, Animations, Multimedia Productions

    • Art, photos, multimedia and animations must all make a positive emotional impact.

    • Do not send us the original copy of your work.

    • For still artwork, please use .jpg or .bmp format if submitting electronically (maximum file size = 2Mb), or a clear photocopy or photograph if submitting via regular post.

    • Video/animation submissions must be in .mpg (MPEG-1) or .swf format, compressed to ensure low file size (maximum = 6Mb), whilst retaining good quality resolution.

Submissions may be lodged online, or sent as hardcopy + softcopy via regular post.

We do not return submissions, so please keep the original, or a copy, of your work.  Bright Light Multimedia and its entities assume no responsibility for the receipt, return, acknowledgement or publication of submissions.

We do not acknowledge receipt of submissions, unless a submission has been accepted for publication at The Bright Light Café, or in our newsletter, "Brilliant!".  We will contact you via e-mail if your submission is successful.  You should hear back from us within 60 days if we have accepted your submission.

At this present time, we do not pay for submissions to The Bright Light Café.  Nor do we charge for editing and polishing, showcasing and promoting your talent.  We do provide a by-line for our successful contributors.  We also offer a possible audio performance of accepted submissions.

All submissions must be the original and unpublished work of the person making the submission. There must be no legal reason why you cannot submit your creation to The Bright Light Café.  Full financial and legal responsibility for copyright violation rests entirely with the submitting creator.

If your submission is successfully showcased, it will be considered for inclusion in future Bright Light Multimedia commercial projects.  If your submission is chosen for commercial release, you will receive a contract welcoming you into the Bright Light family of talent.

Copyright remains with the author/artist/creator.  Submitting material to The Bright Light Café grants The Bright Light Café all print, performance and electronic rights, both international and domestic, for accepted submissions.

Accepted submissions may be archived for continued access by our site visitors.
