Cancer

Sterile white room, ringed curtains closed,
Harsh clean disinfected floors shine
So small and fragile my love sits staring,
Scared, unknowing at the word
Spoken softly. Hanging, unwanted, cancer.
Solemn oncologist states the treatment
A course of chemo, chemistry convenient,
New. Eight long weeks, so slow, too fast.
Time too slippery to count. Then smiling faces
One morning beam; the lymphoma’s gone.
Life carries on now, just in a different way.
