It's Not The Money Or The Way We Dress

My hair’s a mess, my clothes a shock, and look it’s nearly six o’clock.
Will someone pick up that ringing phone? Watch out kids, your dad is home!
His kiss used to send me into a quiver, now all he asks is, “what’s for dinner?”
His muddy shoes by the door, kids’ toys strewn across the floor.
Is this my life? Is this my lot? I think I’ll scream and lose the plot!

He says “makin’ a cuppa? I’d love to hear, all about your day, my dear.”
Please don’t ask I just may tell! But to hear it may just do you well.
You see, I had a chat with Mrs. Smythe, she told me all about her life.
Of her bliss and happiness, a life filled with money and success.

How I wish I had that life. No struggles, worries, bills nor strife.
Her husband she just adores. Good looks with charm, and owns department stores.
She doesn’t seem to get irate when he’s away or always working late.
And their children, oh my dear, first in their class every year.
Well dressed, well mannered, so sweetly spoken. Their house so neat, nothing broken.

Now look at you sitting in that chair, with smelly socks and in your underwear.
And our kids, now heaven knows, why Timmy always picks his nose.
And when we’re out and about, all Susie does is scream and shout.
And little Mikey, bless him dear, stuck Lego in the doggie’s ear!

How am I to be so proud when they’re on the toilet counting plops out loud?
And while I speak of that, our cat’s done poo on next doors mat,
And there’s the gas bill, due today and there’s no money till next pay.
I throw my hands up in the air, I cry out loud in my despair!

"My oh my", he says and sighs, "you really must open your eyes!
"You’ll see my dear, that Mrs. Smythe, is really sad and has no life.
"Mr. Charm may be her mate but have you ever seen them date?
"Do they laugh? Have fun? What’s more, do they picnic on the lounge room floor?
"Their kids are at boarding school all locked up tight. Who kisses them all goodnight?

"Who hugs them clean after a bath and gets to wave them off down the path?
"And when you’ve done all you do, you hear you kids say I love you
"And then there’s me, love of your life, I always knew you would be my wife.
"I love our home and I must confess, you look so sexy all a mess.
"Love the way we stay up talking late, you are my life, you are my mate.

"Our happiness is our success; it’s not the money or the way we dress."
Oh, you're right! Please do forgive! I really love the life we live.
And now I think a little while, Mrs. Smythe just never smiles.
This is no mess, and we do our best, with our lot we’re truly blessed!
We have true love and real happiness; it’s all we need to be a success!

Down to earth. It makes you think about the fact, all is not how you might see people on the surface. Peoples lives and relationships are more than about material and possessions we have in our lives.
