Anecdotes King
and Queen Washington
It
is just as well George and Martha Washington were humble, good
people, otherwise America would now be a royalist country, hailing
the King or Queen directly descended from The Washington genetic
line.
Stamped
with Honour George
V had hoped his elder brother, Albert, would be king, and let him live
a quieter, saner life, but the fates decreed otherwise.
Albert died in 1892, making George the heir apparent.
Upon the death of his father, Edward V11, in 1910, George
became King of England.
... Perhaps one of the best illustrations of George’s gentle honour
is not to do with his royal duties, but with his favourite hobby –
stamp collecting.

Good
Heart by B. A. Llewellyn
(661 words)
My doctor
informed me that my blood test had come back. He picked up a sheet of
paper, frowned, and shook his head as he perused my blood's evaluation. He
then passed the test results to me, while pointing out, with words and gestures,
that
my cholesterol reading was 8
millimoles per litre.

Short
Stories:
The
Unsaid (157 words) by Gbemi
Akinlolu
For the power to break the land was in fire, but fire wouldn’t come.
And the power to kill the fire was in water and water wouldn’t come. And the power lap water was in wind but wind wouldn’t come.
The
Kilt (1,798 words) by
Debbie McCurry
The
beam of bright light, created by the sun reflecting through
the glass of the window, seems to highlight the colours of the
material Maureen is manoeuvring in her hands on the sewing
machine. Her mind
keeps telling her that the red, black and white tartan pattern
looks familiar, and she starts to rack her brains to recall
the memories that seem to want to rush back to the past.
Have
a Nice Day! (487 words) by
Denise Marshall
(laughter)
The funniest thing happened to me a few mornings ago, and
I mean "funny" literally! I was racing 'round and 'round our diner's kitchen like a mad woman trying frantically to prepare for, and beat, our breakfast crowd.
J'ever ever have one of those days with no "right-ons" and all "wrong turns?"
Breathing
River (944 words) by Gbemi
Akinlolu
It started like this, her father appeared to her in the dream and said,
“Fear is a thing of the mind, love is a thing of the mind, death is a thing of the mind.
Why suicide when life was wrought in meaning?”

Barbara
Llewellyn's memories and photos
Our
resident actress has had a very busy month with the DVD
release of "7 Little Australians". Barbara
portrayed Meg, the eldest of the Seven Little Australians,
when she was twenty years old.
To
honour this advent, Barbara has written down some memories
she has of that time as well as adding Seven Little Australian
photos. We
have also persuaded Barbara to place Photos of her time in the
very popular Young
Ramsay, Class of '74
and The Box. Multimedia
Entertainment
Bright
Light's vision of free multimedia entertainment is becoming a
reality. Barbara Llewellyn's beautiful and professional voice has already been added to many poems and a few
short stories and articles, with meditations and a breathing exercise
as optional accompaniments to the beautiful Uplifting Art section. And
now music has also become an optional extra. You can even listen
to both music and voice together if you so wish.

Ode
to Freedom's Joy
December
is the time of year when many of us have the chance to listen to
our local city choir singing “Ode to Joy”.
It is an inspiring and uplifting piece, which is perhaps made
even more inspirational by knowing that the original title and words
were “Ode to Freedom”.

Howard
Harks was the director of the Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall
movie, “The Big
Sleep”. He liked
the script except for one small concern - Howard couldn’t figure
out who had killed a certain character in the film.
Ghandi's
Wisdom
One
famous story of Ghandi’s wisdom is set in 1947. A fellow countryman, who was seeking solace and redemption,
approached Ghandi. The
man had killed a child!

Story:
Checkout
Chick Secrets (1,020 words)
by B. A. Llewellyn
I
was at the check out counter, purchasing my fortnightly grocery shopping.
She was the checkout chick. A
sweet young thing who had the indifference of previous shoppers sharpening her
own indifference, and her underlying desire for conversation.
I asked a few obvious and polite questions, “How are you?” “How has
your day been going?” She
answered with the obvious and polite answers.
A
Glance Out of the Window (1,055 words) by Jack
Green
She was sitting on the tram when she sensed the man by her side.
He stood quite close to her since it was four o'clock in the evening and the tram was packed full of tired people, making the journey home from work.
She considered her luck in getting a seat, one of the perks of having a job on the outskirts of
Prague ... perhaps the only one.
